Ham and cheese croissants

1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed (store-bought or homemade)
4 slices of ham
4 slices of cheese (such as Swiss, cheddar, or Gruyere)
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)
Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:

Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry sheet into four squares or rectangles, depending on the desired size of your croissants.
Assemble the Croissants:

Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each pastry square, positioning them diagonally from each other.
Starting from one corner, roll up each pastry square diagonally towards the opposite corner, enclosing the ham and cheese filling inside. Repeat with the remaining squares.
Brush with Egg Wash:

Place the rolled-up croissants seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Lightly brush the tops of the croissants with the beaten egg, using a pastry brush. This will give them a golden brown color when baked.
Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top of the egg wash for added flavor and texture.
Bake the Croissants:

Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake the croissants for 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let the croissants cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.

Serve the ham and cheese croissants warm as they are or with a side of mustard or honey for dipping.
Enjoy these flaky, savory treats for breakfast, brunch, or as a delicious snack any time of the day!
