Homemade Telera Rolls

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Additional flour for dusting

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
  3. Stir until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round roll and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each roll.
  6. Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, gently slash the top of each roll with a sharp knife.
  8. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
